STAFF REPORT <br />TO:Mayor Keis and Members of the City Council <br />FROM:Heidi Heller, City Clerk/HR Manager <br />Bryce Shearen, Parks & Rec/Community Services Director <br />DATE:December 14, 2022 <br />RE:2023 Parks & Recreation Commission Appointments <br />2023 Parks & Recreation Commission Chair Appointment <br />Certificate of Appreciation for Dave Miller & Rose Chu <br />ACTION REQUESTED <br />A motion to appoint Ron Horwath and Kate Williams to 3-year terms from 2023-2025 and Maggie <br />DeLongMiller to a 1-year term from 2023-2024. <br />A motion to appoint a Parks & Recreation Commission Chair in 2023. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The terms of office for Rose Chu and Ron Horwath will expire on December 31, 2022. At this <br />time, there are two 3-year terms on the Parks & Recreation Commission to fill, and one 1-year <br />term to fill for the remainder of Commissioner Millers’ term. <br />The City has received a letter requesting a reappointment from Ron Horwath. Two new <br />applications were received from Kate Williams and Maggie DeLong Miller. <br />The two new applicants were interviewed by a Parks & Recreation Commission Interview <br />Committee consisting of Mayor John Keis, Council Member Teresa Miller, Parks & <br />Rec/Community Services Director Bryce Shearen, and Parks Commission Chair Dave Miller. <br />The interview committee was very impressed with all of the applicants. <br />Kate Williams has lived in Little Canada for 32 years and enjoys the parks system the city offers <br />and currently is an avid park user. With all the time Ms. Williams spends in the park, she has the <br />opportunity to engage with many other park users and is looking to bring that feedback to the <br />Commission. Ms. Williams is also interested in finding creative ways for people of all ages to use <br />the park system. <br />Maggie DeLongMiller has lived in Little Canada for 26 years and is interested in contributing to <br />the community. Ms. DeLongMiller is interested in making sure the parks are accessible to all and <br />helping make people aware of all that the Little Canada parks system has to offer. <br />Please also note that City Code Chapter 2501, Parks & Recreation Commission, calls for the <br />Mayor to make a recommendation for Parks & Recreation Commission Chair. Mayor Keis will
