MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MARCH 25, 2009
It was the consensus of the Council that the Fill Empty Store Fronts action
plan was acceptable as proposed.
The Administrator then reviewed the action plan for "Develop Little
Canada Road Streetscape Plan", which is the combination of the goals
"Streetscape Plan" and "Central Little Canada Road Corridor Study".
The Administrator noted that sidewalks along Little Canada Road were
studied as part of the bridge reconstruction in the late 1980's. It was
determined at that time that there was no room for sidewalks. Therefore,
the Administrator suggested that the action plan focus on lighting,
planters, flag poles, etc. The Administrator suggested that staff put
together a work scope for the Council's review. Once that scope is
approved, staff can put out an RFP for consultants.
There was discussion about the County's plans for Little Canada Road
east of the freeway. It was noted that at the time the bridge was
reconstructed, the County plan included widening Little Canada Road to
Edgerton Street. It was the consensus of the Council that there was no
need for four lanes. If the street needs to be wider, a center turn lane may
be the answer.
The Council agreed with the Administrator's suggestion that the focus
should be on aesthetic improvements along Little Canada Road, extending
some of the same improvements that exist on Little Canada Road further
to the west.
The next action plan related to the "Focus on Multi-Family Housing
Crime prevention Efforts". The Administrator noted that this action plan
is already underway and a workshop has been scheduled for April 8`~' to
review the final draft Licensing ordinance with multi-family housing
ownership. The Council will have to make decisions on inspection
schedules, license fees, etc. Once the ordinance is adopted that the details
decided, City staff will prepare the appropriate forms and implement the
program.
The action plan for "continue to Move Forward with New Public Works
Garage" was reviewed. The Administrator noted that once a site is
identified, the City will be ready to move forward with implementing this
action plan. The Administrator listed potential sites, adding the option of
the City acquiring the A-1 Hydraulics property, redeveloping this site in
combination with the Public Works Garage existing site with a new Public
Works Garage.
The City Clerk suggested a modification to "Sell Existing Site" feeling
that the financial feasibility of demolition of the existing public works
