MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
APRIL 22, 2009
Merit felt that the situation was unique, and noted that the CVS signage
proposed meets the City's Architectural Guidelines.
Keis indicated it was his feeling that the Valvoline sign was fine as it is.
He agreed that not requiring the sign to be changed now would result in
lost leverage for the City, but pointed out that the sign was fine when it
was originally approved by the City. Keis felt that at best Valvoline
would agree with the sign change, but noted that CVS will likely have to
pay for it. Keis pointed out that the Valvoline sign will remain as a
separate sign regardless.
The City Planner pointed out that if upgrading the Valvoline sign is a
requirement, then the City would not issue permits for the installation of
the CVS signage, until there was agreement with Valvoline on their
signage upgrades. The Planner indicated that his recommendation did not
intend That the branding be changed, just improvements made to the sign
structure, such as brick or some other aesthetic improvements to the
existing pole.
At this point, it was the consensus of the Council to proceed with the
recommendation that CV S work with Valvoline on upgrades to their sign,
rather than make improvements a requirement of the Comprehensive Sign
Plan.
Mr. Montour introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2009-4-88 -APPROVING THE CONDITIONAL
USE PERMIT FOR A COMPREHENSIVE SIGN PLAN FOR CVS
PHARMACYAS PROPOSED BYICONSOLUTIONSSUBJECT TO
COMPLIANCE WITH THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE CITY
PLANNER AS OUTLINED IN HIS REPORT DATED APRIL 3, 2009
AND SUBJECT TO COMPLIANCE WITH THE
RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION AND
ENCOURAGING ICON SOL UTIONS AND CVS PHARMACY TO
WORK WITH VALVOLINE TO MODIFY THEIR SIGN TO MATCH
THE ARCHITECTURAL APPEARANCE OF THE CVS SIGNAGE
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Boss.
Ayes (4).
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
COMPRE- Blesener opened the public hearing to consider adoption of the
HENSIVE Comprehensive Plan Update with the update to be forward to the
PLAN Metropolitan Council for their formal review.
UPDATE
