<br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Position Title: Maintenance Worker II – Public Works <br />Department: Public Works <br />Accountable To: Public Works Director <br />Status: Full-time, Non-exempt <br />Pay Grade: Grade 5 <br />Reviewed: May 2023 <br />_______________________________________________________________________ <br /> <br />PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION <br /> <br />Assists in the maintenance of streets, parks and grounds, municipal water and sewer systems involving <br />the use of manual labor and the operation of all Public Works equipment. Performs semi-skilled and <br />unskilled work in the maintenance and repair of municipal water, sewer, street, and park systems. <br />Performs other duties and responsibilities as needed. <br /> <br />Positions at this level are distinguished from the Maintenance Worker 1 level by the performance of <br />the full range of duties as assigned, working independently and exercising judgement and initiative. <br />Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations <br />arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This position <br />should have the skills to exercise technical and functional supervision over lower level staff. <br /> <br />Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and positions at the Maintenance Worker 2 level are normally <br />filled by advancement from the Maintenance Worker 1 level. When filled from the outside, the <br />employee is required to have prior related experience which allows the employee to meet the <br />qualification standards for the Maintenance Worker 2 level. <br /> <br />MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES <br /> <br />1. Routine maintenance and repair of City streets: <br /> <br />a. Operates snowplow equipment in the clearing and removal of snow from streets, <br />parking lots, trails, sidewalks, and fire hydrants. <br /> <br />b. Operates dump truck for de-icing of City streets during and after snowfalls. <br /> <br />c. Installs street signs, barricades, and warning lights in order to ensure safety of <br /> residents. <br /> <br />d. Drives dump truck for hauling materials such as gravel, asphalt, sand, etc. <br /> <br />e. Repairs blacktop on streets using blacktop tools, skidsteer, dump truck, hot box, etc. <br /> <br />f. Works with crack filling and street improvement contractors.
