MAINTENANCE WORKER 1 - PARKS JOB DESCRIPTION <br />2 <br /> <br />7. Performs repairs of a routine nature to vehicles and equipment; including but not limited to: <br />welding repairs; routine oil and lubrication repairs; and other routine equipment repairs. <br /> <br />8. Adheres to all safety rules and regulations; follows safe work practices according to law, City <br />practices, and generally accepted safe work standards. <br /> <br />9. Assists all maintenance divisions and other departments including the Public Works <br />Department, as directed, in the required maintenance of City-owned properties and facilities. <br /> <br />10. Performs other duties as assigned. <br /> <br />DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES <br />• Degree or certificate in maintenance/mechanic technology, horticulture, turf management, or <br />related field. <br />• One or more years of experience in municipal parks operations or related/similar field. <br />• Possession of MN Tree Inspector License. <br />• Possession of Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) Certification. <br />• Valid MN Class B Commercial Driver’s License. <br />• CPR and/or First Aid Certification <br /> <br />MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS <br />• High School diploma or G.E.D. <br />• Valid MN Class D Driver’s License. Must obtain and maintain Class B MN driver’s license <br />within 6 months of employment. <br />• Strong mechanical ability and skills <br />• Experience in routine care and maintenance of equipment, including demonstrated ability to <br />perform mechanical repairs on large-scale mowers and other vehicles and equipment. <br />• Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively as part of a team. <br />• Demonstrated ability to follow safe work practices according to law, City practices, and <br />generally accepted safe work standards. <br />• Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing and to understand and follow <br />written and oral instructions. <br />• Requires compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier <br />Safety Administration (FMCSA) drug and alcohol testing program requirements. <br />• Experience in a related/similar field. <br />• Ability to take initiative and carry out tasks independently of others. <br />• Ability to use a computer/tablet to navigate GIS mapping and work order and asset <br />management software. <br /> <br />WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS <br />• Must be available for extended work days, weekends, call back, shift schedule changes, on-call <br />duty, snow and ice control, and other emergencies. <br />• Primary job functions require the ability to perform physical activities including bending, <br />twisting, gripping, carrying, and shoveling; lifting up to 100 lbs.; working in confined spaces; <br />use of personal protective equipment such as harnesses, and related equipment; ability to work <br />outdoors in extreme weather.
