<br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Position Title: Maintenance Worker II - Parks <br />Department: Parks and Recreation <br />Accountable To: Parks and Recreation Director <br />Status: Full-time, Non-exempt <br />Pay Grade: Grade 5 <br />Reviewed: May 2023 <br />_______________________________________________________________________ <br /> <br />PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION <br /> <br />Manual labor and equipment operation and repair related to maintenance and upkeep of city-owned <br />parks and other grounds, athletic fields, buildings, outdoor ice rinks, playgrounds and playground <br />equipment, and park trails. Also maintenance of park lawns, trees, shrubs, and plants; seeding, <br />sodding, and planting; mowing and aerating; trimming, transplanting, and removing trees and plants; <br />weed control; routine welding, oil and lubrication repairs; and plowing pathways and parking lots. <br />Must be available for extended work days, weekends, call back, shift schedule changes, snow and ice <br />control, and other emergencies as required of the City's Maintenance Departments. <br /> <br />Positions at this level are distinguished from the Maintenance Worker I - Parks level by the <br />performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently and exercising judgment <br />and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or <br />unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. <br />This position should have the skills to exercise technical and functional supervision over lower-level <br />staff. <br /> <br />Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and positions at the Maintenance Worker II level are <br />normally filled by advancement from the Maintenance Worker I level. When filled from the outside, <br />the employee is required to have prior related experience which allows the employee to meet the <br />qualification standards for the Maintenance Worker II level. <br /> <br /> <br />MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES <br /> <br />1. Performs all tasks, functions, and duties assigned to the parks maintenance division, including <br />but not limited to: equipment operation, manual labor, operating mowing equipment, forklift <br />operations, backhoe operations, and snowplowing. <br /> <br />2. Performs manual tasks and equipment operation for the installation, construction, and <br />maintenance of parks, grounds, facilities, and related areas, including but not limited to: <br />installing and maintaining irrigation systems within park system; installing and constructing <br />athletic fields, ice rinks, playground and related equipment, and park trails. <br />
