Written Feedback
From: Jeff Varhalla Date: May 19, 2023
I’d like to provide my input to the Labore Road Side Walk Proposal.
My name Jeff Varhalla and I live at 651 Allen Avenue. I’ve been a resident at this address for over 27 years.
I’m one of many in the neighborhood who are active in both biking and walking. That I believe gives me some
pretty good insight into the issue at hand.
Sidewalks are a cornerstone of life in the city. One of the very things we as suburbanites reject. Don’t infringe
upon our identity. Yes Labore Road is noisy and the traffic moves much too fast. Can imagine any parent
who would want their children playing anywhere near Labore Road (with or without a sidewalk). And I can’t
imagine any homeowner who would want a sidewalk going through their yard. I sure wouldn’t. A sidewalk on
Labore Road would be nothing more than a costly white elephant. And would likely draw resources away from
other higher value areas. We don’t need more parks or sidewalks. Sometimes less is more. In this case it’s
especially true. I would much rather see any money allocated toward keeping our existing parks in the best
possible condition.
Here’s a strong suggestion. Pickle Ball is and has been the fastest going sport in America. How many Pickle
Ball courts does Little Canada have? Zilch! Pickle Ball has been the fastest growing sport in America for the
last 3 years. How about using some of that Parks and Rec money for some pickle Ball courts (some real Pickle
Ball courts, not lines drawn on a tennis court!). Then we won’t have to go to other communities to play. Frankly,
I’m appalled that those of you on the parks and Rec staff haven’t recognized the popularity of Pickleball and
got some courts built!
From: Kurt Gorsetman Date: May 6, 2023
I’d like to provide my input to the Labore Road Side Walk Proposal.
Bryce - I have several questions and concerns:
1. Why is this even necessary? I ride up and down Labore Road a lot and there are very few people walking
on the road.
2. Who came up with this ( unneeded ) idea??
3. MOST IMPORTANT!! Who would pay for this and how? At a time when Little Canada is constantly raising
its taxes ( plus Ramsey County, etc. - my taxes went up 15% this year and 29% 2 years ago ), why would we
be even considering an unnecessary addition at this time?? This only adds to the problem of Bideninflation!
4. I cannot help but feel that this smells of one of those situations in which contractors are salivating (
Frattalone, for example ) at getting this contract to make a lot of money.
Yes, I will be at the meeting. Hopefully, it will not be in vain as other meetings like this have been in the past
- because the powers that be have already made up their minds!
Kurt Gorsetman
441 Eli Road
