MINUTES
PARKS & REC COMMISSION
DECEMBER 1, 2022

2
today, and the playground has been ordered. He reviewed the next steps in the process. He
stated that this month staff will attempt to secure some of the smaller amenities that could be
stored before prices increase in 2023. He stated that LCRA was at the Council meeting the
previous night and provided a donation of $400,000, which was the full price of the playground
equipment.

Chair Miller noted that he was at the City Council meeting as well and noted that the Roseville
League of Women Voters was also at the meeting speaking about ADA accessibility. He noted
the ADA-accessible features that have been accommodated in recent parks. He commented that
it is great that they can continue to think big and not in terms of just the available budget as the
City has done a great job obtaining donations and/or grants for projects.

The Parks & Rec Director noted that this would be a focal point of the next newsletter to keep
residents engaged and informed. He noted that the details of the water feature are still being
discussed. He reviewed the estimated timeline for the playground and park project. He noted
that while a community build would not be an option for the playground, there could be other
opportunities to incorporate a community build with other park features.

OLD BUSINESS: COMMISSIONER TERMS AND REAPPOINTMENT PROCESS
UPDATE
The Parks & Rec Director noted that Commissioners Chu and Horwath have expiring terms at
the end of the year. He noted that Commissioner Horwath is interested in reapplying, but this
will be the last meeting for Commissioner Chu. He recognized the contributions of
Commissioner Chu and the time she has contributed to the City.

Commissioner Chu commented that it has been a pleasure to serve her community and noted that
she will continue to look for opportunities to get involved.

The Parks & Rec Director noted that Chair Miller has been elected to the City Council, so this
will also be his last meeting. He recognized his contributions and the leadership that he has
provided to the Commission. He noted that there will be two open positions on the Commission
and advised that there is currently one applicant scheduled for an interview at this time. He
stated that the City Council will appoint a new Chair of the Commission and the Commission
will decide on a Vice Chair.

Chair Miller encouraged interested residents to apply for the Commission.

NEW BUSINESS: RECREATION COORDINATOR UPDATE
The Recreation Coordinator highlighted the upcoming Cookies with Santa event and recognized
the event sponsors. She also highlighted the upcoming Indoor Market as well as upcoming youth
and adult programming opportunities. She thanked the staff members that have assisted in
preparing for the event this weekend.
