MIT~CITES
Parks & Recreation Commission
r~<anuary 6, 1994
Remerowski stated that Vadnais Lake is considered an
environmental lake where specifications call for 40,000 foot
lots on the lake. A recreational lake which Twin Lake is
calls for 20,000 foot lots. Therefore, Remerowski felt that
this was one of the reasons why the developer wanted to put
twin homes in because it would fit better.
Wehrle felt that it was important to work with Vadnais
Heights so that they would not do something with their
property that would become a problem for Little Canada in
the future.
Wehrle stated that the Commission will have a chance to
react to any development plan that comes in. Sanders stated
that he questions Vadnais Heights' proposed use of the park
land since they would not need courts nor access to the lake
to make a park.
CAPITAL Wehrle indicated that the City Council would like the
IMYROVEt4F.NT Commission to make a recommendation on capital improvements
PRIORITIES for purchase in 1994. Wehrle indicated that funding has
become available through refinancing of some bonds.
The Director stated that the Department Heads met with lists
of improvements needing attention in the City and each
Department Head made a presentation on their items. Once
this was done, the Department Heads came up with the capital
improvements list.
Wehrle commented that there has been some confusion between
what should be funded in the capital improvement fund or 10%
gambling fund. He stated that the loo fund was established
for items not normally paid for by the City on a regular
basis and the City does not want to become dependent upon
that money since it may be obsolete in the future.
Wehrle felt that the Commission's first step should be to
review the parks and recreation items on the list and
comment on them. The Director stated that the cost of each
item and when it could be funded was considered when ranking
them.
Wehrle asked if the Commission members had a problem with
any of the items on the list. The Director stated that the
Commission's main goal tonight should be to decide on the
items that should be purchased in 1994.
Remerowski stated that he has a problem with funding repair
items as a capital improvement since those items should be
-6-
