MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
January 6, 1994
Sanders suggested that the signage could be moved to a lower
priority and only re-roof one of the shelters -- the
amphitheater at Spooner Park. The City could save
approximately $15,000 to $20,000 there, then possibly the
trails could be moved to 1994.
Wehrle felt that Westwind trail paving and Pioneer Park
trail paving should be done together. Remerowski thought
there could be a savings if bid as one project.
The Director stated that if the amphitheater is re-roofed in
1994, he would like to see metal used since kids have lit
fires on the roof in the past. Wehrle agreed with the
Director stating that metal could be used on the
amphitheater and asphalt on the other shelters. He felt
that the color of each material could be matched.
The Director stated that he was in favor of the Westwind
trail paving since the residents in that area have donated
land for a trail easement. Hartmann agreed.
The Director felt that the picnic tables, benches and
signage could wait. Remerowski stated that he felt the park
donations should be advertised more by possibly putting it
in the local newspaper. Johnson felt that a picture of Joe
Fasciana with the bench he donated could be placed in the
paper with an article.
Greger felt that the price for signage was high. He felt
that temporary signs could be used to save money. The
Director felt that the Commission should revisit the
temporary signage issue.
Remerowski recommended funding the Westwind trail paving
($17,000), Pioneer Park trail paving ($30,000), and Spooner
Park amphitheater re-roofing ($4,500) as 1994 Capital
Improvements.
Motion seconded by Hartmann.
Motion carried 7 - 0.
Sanders commented that he hated to see Gervais Mill Park
delayed indefinitely. The Director stated that at future
meetings, the Commission can discuss the placement of other
items for future funding.
-9-
