MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
January 6, 1994
the day light, it would be impossible to stagger the games
since they would not be able to fit all the games in. The
Director also felt that it could be confusing for the
leagues that play. Wehrle thought that the Director should
at least try some different options.
The Director stated that the parking problem at Pioneer Park
is on the Centerville Road side since that is considered the
entrance to the park. He indicated that people have been
illegally parking causing the lot to become congested.
Wehrle asked how much temporary parking could be added on
the Centerville Road side. Sanders stated that possibly 15
to 20 stalls could be added on the north end.
Holm stated that soccer has become more popular in Pioneer
Park too.
The Director stated that at other parks in surrounding
communities, parking is available on the street. Johnson
wanted to know why parking is not available on the street at
Pioneer Park. The Director stated that there is no shoulder
on Centerville Road. However, parking would be possible on
DeSOto Street, but it is currently marked no parking due to
the home owners' requests in the area. Holm stated that
parking on the street on Centerville Road would be very
dangerous.
Hartmann suggested moving the soccer field to the Desoto
Street side to help the parking problem. Sanders stated
that there is not enough room. Wehrle stated that a
solution to the problem would be to add more temporary
parking on the Desoto Street side and have the Sheriff tag
cars illegally parked on the Centerville Road side, but it
would not be very neighborly.
Wehrle felt that some methods other than added permanent
parking should be tried before 1996 to help the parking
problem in Pioneer Park such as explanded overflow parking
on Desoto Street or tagging illegally parked cars. Hartmann
did not feel that street parking on Desoto Street would
solve the problem since the problem is on the Centerville
Road side and the Desoto Street residents do not want the
on-street parking. The Director stated that Desoto Street
was built wider to allow for parking on the street.
Wehrle felt that alternatives to added parking at Pioneer
Park should be tried.
-8-
