MINUTES
PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
MARCH 3, 1994
that he would be willing to forego the site adjacent to
the Rue property if there were another that was better
for the park system that would round out a neighborhood
park for the area.
Sanders pointed out that when the Jackson Street property
is developed, the City could require a land dedication
rather than cash to fulfill park charge requirements.
Under the park ordinance, 10~ of the land would be
required or 5% of the property value.
Remerowski asked if the small park connection adjacent to
Jackson Heights could be leveled and a tot lot improved
on that site. Remerowski suggested that the larger
portion of the property could be sold to Mr. Rue and a
neighborhood tot lot developed on the smaller portion.
Wehrle stated that he viewed the smaller portion of
property as a rest site on the way to the Water Works
trail, and suggested that a couple of picnic tables could
be placed on that site.
Remerowski agreed, and felt that some use should be made
of the smaller parcel such as picnic tables or a sand
box, for example.
Wehrle pointed out that pieces of the powerline trail are
missing, and noted that there is a parcel on Edgerton
Street under the powerlines that is currently for sale.
Wehrle asked if the Commission felt this parcel should be
looked at now.
Wehrle pointed out that if the City does not have any
park land, there will be no park development. However,
if the City has land it can either be developed in the
future or sold at a later date. Wehrle felt if the City
were missing park land in a particular area, he would
like to look into acquiring those sites.
Sanders agreed, provi~
Sanders felt it was a
owners wanted to sell
acquire either a park
Sanders felt it could
go out and purchase a
led that the sites were available.
matter of timing when property
or develop and the City was able to
land dedication or purchase a site.
be difficult for the City to just
site.
Johnson asked if property could be earmarked by the City
3
