MINUTES
PARK AND RECREATION
MARCH 3, 1994
Wehrle felt that the City should acquire the outstanding
pieces of park property first and then look at priorities
for development of that property using the remaining park
acquisition funds for that purpose.
Remerowski suggested that in late Spring the Commission
tour the City to get a better understanding of what
additional parcels may be needed.
Johnson felt there should be a little more park
development on the west side of the freeway.
Remerowski pointed out that if the City tries to purchase
property that is not for sale, it will pay a premium for
that property. Remerowski also pointed out that some
property owners may be unwilling to sell.
The Director reported that the Jackson street site is for
sale, however, the property owner may be unwilling to
sell only a portion of the property.
Remerowski pointed out that when the property is
developed, the City can require a land dedication from
the property owner.
Wehrle suggested that the Commission look at the site to
determine if this is the best location for a neighborhood
park.
The Director felt this area may be more desirable
pointing out better access from the neighborhood as well
as the adjacent multiple-family housing.
Sanders also suggested that the City approach the
Turnquists again to see if their parcel is available.
Wehrle asked how the City has approached property owners
in the past to determine if they have an interest in
selling.
Sanders thought that the last time this was done, the
City Attorney made the contacts.
The Director felt the idea of a tour was a good one so
that the newer members of the Commission are more
familiar with the properties being discussed.
5
