Page 9
$: The largest parcel of land needed for this proposed trail is privately
owned. This land is actively farmed and produces a livelihood and sole income
for a father and son team, as well as their present and future families.
Should a trail be forced on these produce farmers, in order to protect their
incomes and futures, great costs for land acquisition and litigation
would result, Also, should this trail become reality, it would divide this
farmland in half and result in; vandalism to crops and the cost of those- crops, trail
maintainence costs due to eroding tilled soil and the cost of acquiring
additional equipment such as tractors and hydralic implement lifts in order to
get farm equipment over sections of an asphalt trail:. These costs would excede
what we believe this city and its residents would be willing to accept.
9. It has been stated by council members that we sometimes must sacrifice
a few to benefit many. It has also been asked of one of vs It we expected
paradise. WE do not expect nor are we provided paradise as residents of
Little Canada, and we do not want to see the need tm sacrefice anyozre at any
cost.
10'. An existing trail ends at Payne Ave.. IS this trail wera^to be extended
south on-Payne Ave. to Tabora, west on Labore througti•a controlled intersection
alseadp in existence at Edgerton to Desoto which also has existing controlled
intersections and signs already in place directing bike traffic~to-Spooner
or Pioneer Park. This plan-could save the City uncounted tiiae, labor,
maintainenca and development costs as well as• previovsl.,y itemized issues.
This clan would place residents om residential sireets in°a controlled environment
and crossing already controlled intersections.
What we ask is consideration, consideration to our opposition of any
proposed trail through NSP easement land east and west of Edgerton ST.
Page 7
