MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
July 7, 1994
those courts were resurfaced four years ago. The contractor
indicated that he would do the work for $2,750. Of that
amount, $1,750 was paid to the contractor and $1,000 was
held back to make sure the job was done in a satisfactory
manner. When the problems with the court started to
surface, the contractor did not want to come back to repair
the court and therefore lost the $1,000. Wehrle felt that
the problem with the contractor was old news and the City
should consider what should be done now.
Wehrle asked if there was any money available to repair the
courts. Greger stated that the courts are scheduled to be
repaired in 1995 at a cost of $7,500. The Director stated
that the City Administrator felt there would be money
available this year to perform the work.
Wehrle stated that he has looked at the courts and has
noticed some bad spots, but they are not as bad as other
courts he has seen. The Director commented that a tennis
tournament in conjunction with Canadian Days has been
scheduled at the courts.
Remerowski indicated that he has also looked at the courts
and felt they were not bad. Greger stated that he talked to
some people using the courts and they felt it was fine for
playing this year. However, it could be swept periodically.
Greger did not see a need to resurface the courts this year.
The Director stated that the biggest problem with the courts
is not with cracks, but with the color coating. Wehrle felt
that the courts were operational for this year. The
Director agreed, but stated that money may be available now
without touching the Parks and Recreation budget.
Remerowski felt that the money available should be spent on
an item with a higher priority. Wehrle agreed stating that
re-roofing of the shelters at Spooner Park was a higher
priority.
Wehrle recommended that rather than resurfacing the tennis
courts at Spooner Park at this time, if there is money
available in 1994, it should be used on 1994 priorities
which include paving of the Westwind trail, paving of the
Pioneer Park trail, and re-roofing of the band shell at
Spooner Park.
Motion seconded by Hartmann.
Motion carried 6 - 0.
Holm felt that a response should be sent to the people who
submitted the petition. Wehrle stated that he would send a
letter informing them of the Commission's recommendation.
-4-
