Minutes
Parks & Recreation
September 5, 1996
ADJOURNMENT
Sanders replied no. As public hearings regarding street
improvement will be held, it should be discussed at that
time.
Johnson asked why it was next to the street between Labore
and the lake. Sanders replied it was because of the grades
and the right-of-way. Morelan stated the proximity of the
homes to the street is much closer there than it is between
Labore and County Road D. Johnson felt a wider shoulder
would be more attractive than having a paved area right next
to the road. Sanders felt the safety issue should also be
considered, and anytime it can be removed from the street
surface it is better for pedestrians.
Remerowski stated if the residents object to a curb-type
area, why not make it look like what is already there.
Remerowski stated consideration should be given to what the
residents in the area would like. Johnson remarked that in
the pedestrian plan, the section of Arcade between Keller
Parkway and Labore Road was to give consideration to bikers.
Johnson stated she would like to see at least a good
shoulder made due to safety reasons because many people use
it. Greger stated that something be done for biking as well
as walking in line with what the state has done with the
current laws that pedestrians and bicycles be in the three
feet perimeter right of way. Greger stated he felt it is
not a safety issue as much as an enforcement of the laws,
and his recommendation is to always go on the street if we
are going to designate it as a path. Morelan stated his
opinion is that an off-street walk area is much safer than
on-street, and kids are not always going to follow the
letter of the law like an adult would do. Morelan felt the
more you can put it off-street, the safer it would be.
Johnson stated that aesthetically, she prefers a wider
shoulder as opposed to a raised area off the road.
Remerowski moved the meeting be adjourned.
Holm seconded the motion.
Motion carried 7 - 0.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned
at 10:25 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Mary a ey
10
