Prepared by: Bolton & Menk, Inc. PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS
Jackson Street Improvements ǀ 0N1.125375 Page 3
IV. PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS
Street
Based on the pavement age and current distresses, the proposed street improvement for
Jackson Street is a full reconstruction.
A depiction of the proposed street
improvements is shown in Figure 1 in
Appendix A. The road section will be
improved with the addition of 12” of
sand, 8” of gravel and 4” of bituminous
pavement.
B618 curb & gutter will be installed over
the entire project area with valley gutter
helping delineate the road where curb is
not practical. Residents and businesses
will get a concrete apron for their
driveway entrance.
Watermain
The existing ductile iron watermain is in
good condition and is proposed to be left
in place. Existing gate valves within the
pavement will be adjusted up and down
during construction. If the existing gate
valve stack is chipped or broken it will
be replaced. The project cost estimate
includes replacement of broken gate valve stacks as needed.
Additionally, it is proposed that existing bolts on gate valves and mainline fittings in the
reconstruction area be removed and replaced. These are typically the features that fail first
within the water system. Bolt replacement is a proactive way to limit the number of leaks and
breaks the system experiences as it ages.
Sanitary Sewer
The existing sanitary sewer network is in good condition and is proposed to be left in place.
Existing city-owned sanitary sewer manholes in the pavement will receive new castings and
be adjusted to the new pavement elevation. New castings will also be fitted with exterior
chimney seals to prevent inflow and infiltration (I/I).
Storm Sewer
Existing storm sewer structures that are failing will be replaced or rehabilitated with the
project. Additionally, any castings that are broken will be replaced. New catch basins and
pipe will be added to promote the flow of water along the curb into the system.

Exhibit 2 - Roadway Base Reconstruction
