<br />Planning Commission: <br />At their August 10th and September 14th meeting, the Planning Commission reviewed the <br />ordinance and took comments from the public. They also reviewed land use related items <br />including: <br /> <br />• Setbacks – ensuring that coops were located 5 feet from property lines <br />• Coop size – ensuring that there is a minimum of 4 square feet per chicken coup, up to 40 <br />square feet total, 4 square feet x 10 chickens = 40 square feet <br />• Height – ensuring the coop size would then relate to total height of the coup, most owners <br />of chickens do not have the coop higher than 6 feet for maintenance purposes <br />• Nuisance standards – ensuring that the code enforcement officer could enforce the <br />ordinance in that it stated clear expectations of chicken coop owners <br />• Commercial Purposes – ensuring that chicken owners were owning chickens for private <br />use and not for commercial purposes <br /> <br />A link to the Planning Commission Meetings video related to allowing chickens is provided below: <br />August 10th - https://webstreaming.ctv15.org/viewer.php?streamid=6496 <br />September 14th - https://webstreaming.ctv15.org/viewer.php?streamid=6566 <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />Adopt Ordinance 881, amending City Code Chapter 1103.020 and enacting City Code Chapter <br />1103.030: the Raising of Chickens within the City, and approve publication of a summary <br />ordinance. Pursuant to Minnesota Statutes Section 412.191, in the case of a lengthy ordinance, a <br />summary may be published. <br />
