Memo
~L~E-RIN6 ~ ~SSO(I~AT~S
Taut hoaTu
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
FROM: Lee Elfering, City Engineer
DATE: May 26, 2009
RE: County Road 62 Plantings
As you are aware, a development agreement was executed between the City and St.
Jude Medical at the time of their new facility approvals. This agreement included
provisions that required the City to complete boulevard plantings along County Road B2
from Rice Street through the new St. Jude property. We have worked with St. Jude on
an acceptable plan that includes two phases. The first phase will include the addition of
Maple trees along the south boulevard of B2 from Rice Street through St. Jude's new
property, Crabapple trees between the curb and sidewalk on the north side of County
Road 82 from Park Street through the Roseville School entrances, and a shredded
wood mulch bed with evergreen shrubs along the new property fence between the truck
entrance and the main entrance of the new St. Jude property.
The second phase of the landscape plan will address the area between Rice Street and
Park Street on the north side of County Road 62. This area was included as a second
phase because the City is currently working with the Bread store at the corner and the
Mobile Home Park to provide for additional street right-of-way for a turn lane and
boulevard area along this section. Upon conclusion of those efforts the second phase of
the landscape plan will be developed and completed.
Quotes have been solicited for the first phase of the landscaping plan from Willow River
Tree Farms, a landscape contractor that completed plantings for the City last year, and
Lan-De-Con, the landscape contractor that completed the St. Jude site landscaping.
The following is a listing of the quotes received.
Corporation Total Bid
Willow River Tree Farms $20,675.89
Lan-De-Con Inc. $28,430.60
Based on the quotes received we would recommend that the City authorize Willow River
Tree Farms to complete the work. If you have any questions regarding this issue please
` call me at (763)'780-0450'extension'13.
10062 Flanders Court NE -Blaine, MN 55449 - Ph: (763) 780-0450 Fax (763) 780-0452
2:\PROJ\120134E - SL Jutle Turn lane\Memo~052609-CC (Landscape Awardj.doc
