MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
May 7, 2009
OTHER:
The overabundance of deer population in our city has caused havoc with many of the trees,
including plantings from last year. Slain asked what could be done to decrease the population of
deer. Morelan stated that the DNR has done a survey of the deer and the city could arrange to
have a bow hunting group try to reduce population. This would be a City Council decision.
Morelan distributed the upcoming Market Place Morning Talks flier for May 13 with the topic of
Know About ALL Your Medication! The talk will be given by Gary Raines, a Registered
Pharmacist with Setzer Pharmacy.
Maida inquired about the Little Canada Recreational Association and what they have done
within the city. Morelan stated the LCRA is anon-profit corporation that assists the youth
within the city. They have assisted with building the Spooner Park Storage Garage and also
provide financial assistance to the youth programs throughout the year by providing 20% of the
fee for each program. Morelan stated that is getting more difficult to have fundraisers and
gambling funds are down from previous years all of which are being affected by the state of the
economy.
SPRING PARK TOUR
After the closing of the meeting Morelan suggested the commissioners tour Thunder Bay Park,
view the new boardwalk and take a look at the plantings needed in Pioneer Park.
ADJOURN Upon motion by Steinwell, seconded by Slain, the meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
R/espectfully submitted,
}~ y~~
Dotty Norgard
Recording Secretary
