MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />AUGUST 14, 2024 <br />Mayor Fischer asked for details on some of the work the attorney would be involved with. The City <br />Administrator commented that the civil attorney would assist with land use matters and provided some <br />examples. <br />Mayor Fischer introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: <br />RESOL UTION NO. 2024-8-93 — APPROVING THE CIVIL LEGAL SER VICES <br />AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF LITTLE CANADA AND LEVANDER, GILLEN <br />& MILLER, P.A. <br />The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Gutierrez. <br />Ayes (5). Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted. <br />ICMA YOUNG SOUTHEAST ASIAN LEADERS INITIATIVE PROFESSIONAL FELLOWS <br />PROGRAM <br />The Community Relations Manager explained that earlier this summer the City Administrator was <br />made aware of this program, which allows cities to host an international fellow. She stated that this is <br />a great opportunity for fellows from southeast Asia to spend time working in the U.S. noting that the <br />fellows have a broad range of skills, particularly in sustainability and the environment. She stated that <br />staff worked with ICMA to determine if Little Canada could be a good fit and a final approval was <br />received for Little Canada to receive a fellow. She stated that the fellow would be used to help guide <br />the 2025 Strategic Plan initiative related to municipal sustainability and funding opportunities. She., <br />stated that the fellow would arrive in September for a four week stay. She noted some cultural and <br />community involvement opportunities that would be explored as well. She commented that there <br />would be no cost to the city to host this fellow. <br />Mayor Fischer stated that it may be helpful to complete a cultural overview prior to the arrival of the <br />fellow to ensure that they do not unintentionally offend them. <br />The Community Relations Manager commented that staff from ICMA will be working with the <br />fellows for about one week before they go to their assigned cities to help them prepare for living in the <br />United States. <br />COUNCIL REPORTS AND MEETING UPDATES <br />D. Miller thanked everyone that assisted and volunteered to make Canadian Days a success. He stated <br />that it was also great to connect with the community through Night to Unite. <br />T. Miller commented that Night to Unite was very fun to participate in. She also provided an update <br />on the recent Ramsey County League of Local Governments (RCLLG) picnic and tour of the <br />Shoreview Community Center. She stated that on Monday she will attend the League of Minnesota <br />Cities policy committee meeting. <br />Kwapick thanked everyone that participated in the food drive during Canadian Days, and provided an <br />update on the food and donations received noting that they surpassed the donations from the previous <br />3 <br />
