6

Overview of Principal Elements

Figure 1: Overview of array, size 21.17 kW DC / 17.3 kW AC
This document outlines Apadana’s proposed roof mounted PV solar array located at the Little Canada City Hall.
The proposed system size is 21.2 kW DC / 17.3 kW AC, with panels on the southern facing roof. The panels are
Znshine 415W, which feature a 30-year productfon warranty. These panels are fixed to IronRidge racking, which
will hold the panels parallel to the roof. Apadana has years of experience installing this railing system on
pitched roofs across the metro area. A single SolarEdge inverter will be used, keeping down costs and upkeep.
Both Apadana and the system as currently proposed will meet the SPB grant requirements. If selected,
Apadana will be responsible for providing informatfon and supportfng preparatfon of documents to contribute
to the City’s grant applicatfon with the Minnesota Department of Commerce.
A site visit and a drone survey were done to gather informatfon and create an accurate layout for the panels.
Images from the drone survey were used to generate a 3D model, which we believe leads to more accurate
measurements. Other consideratfons such as required fire walkways are incorporated into the layout of the
roof. These points are discussed more in Equipment Layout. The roof surface appears to be in good conditfon.
The roof structure can be evaluated for loading if necessary. Apadana employs state licensed structural
engineers to confirm the integrity of the roof for permitting purposes or other needs.
Challenges from the site include the use of a temporary generator during power outages. Due to NEC and
utflity requirements, this will affect where we can connect the solar array to the existfng equipment. To comply
with these rules, the connectfon must be made in the basement at the CT cabinet for the electrical meter.
Trees castfng shade is another issue, with trees present directly to the south and west of the array. Shading
may increase as the trees grow depending on exact species of tree. The Equipment Layout sectfon lays out
these issues and any contfngency plans in detail.
We made decisions throughout to keep the costs of the system down and lay out alternatfve plans where we
see uncertainty. Apadana has extensive knowledge of installing all major components listed in this proposal,
applying for city and state grants, as well as years of working with public and private clients. Apadana will also
meet all deadlines as required for the Solar on Public Buildings grant submittal.
