MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
AUGUST 28, 2024
impact from Gordie's Place. He stated that the Council agreed with those concerns, and they were able
to come to an agreement with Gordy's to mitigate those concerns. He asked why the City now feels
that a commercial road would be acceptable to their property and its residents. He stated that this is
completely unacceptable to the residents that would live just feet from the road. He stated that if
limitations were placed on sporting activities due to the impact of the quality of life of residents, he
was unsure how the Council could now support a commercial road that would have more impacts to
those residents. He stated that while he understands the needs and goals of the project, he does not
believe this is the solution. Mike Strub submitted 90 signatures to the City Clerk from residents at
Fleur Royale that are opposing the Little Canada Road and Country Drive roundabout project as
proposed.
Christina Kolb, 183 Little Canada Road E., stated that she chose this location to live in because it felt
like coming home as the drive into the property feels welcoming and beautiful. She stated that to lose
that and the quiet, wooded nature of their home would take away everything they love about the
property. She commented that this will dramatically reduce their property values. She commented
that since the installation of the roundabouts at I-694 and Rice Street and Country Drive, truck traffic
seems to have rerouted through Little Canada Road to avoid those. She recognized the goal of Little
Canada being a great place to live that is safe and beautiful, but did not believe that this project is
wanted by residents. She also expressed concern with the location of their gas main at the southeast
corner of their building, as the roadway would then be 30 feet from that. She stated that she also
would not want to have a giant sound barrier next to her home and asked the Council not to make her
home an uncomfortable, loud place.
Keith Flanagan, 179 Little Canada Road E., commented that he lives on the southeast corner of the
building above the gas main. He asked why the beautiful, natural sound barrier installed by Gordie's
years ago would be taken out. He stated that the natural sound barrier of the woodsy driveway would
also be removed. He opposed the plan unless it is moved as far east as possible. He stated that the
grassy area could become a great park or off -leash dog park.
Susan Lanasa, 181 Little Canada Road, stated that she lives on the third floor and is concerned with the
pollution that would come into her window. She stated that she can already hear the traffic on the road
now, and with this project that would be even closer to her home. She commented that she does not
want her last years to be this and would like to see it moved further east as the roundabout is too close
to the corner, where the gas line is as well.
Jessi Ganzel, 2733 Lakeshore Avenue, commented that she has an eight -foot wide curb cut and the
vehicles on the roadway are already traveling at a high speed. She stated that her neighbor also only
has an eight -foot curb cut. She stated that she would now only be able to turn right to get out of her
driveway and it would seem would need to go around the roundabout to visit someone on her own
street. She commented that people are not going to want to buy a home with a roundabout in their
front yard. She commented on a recent project that created two turn lanes from the highway exit and
was unsure how that would work with one lane for traffic. She stated that traffic is already backing up
with two lanes and was unsure how creating one lane of traffic with a roundabout would solve that
issue.
0
