0 .—,t Highway 96
'aut, Minnesota 55112
484-3301
City Council
City of Little Canada
515 East Little Canada Road
St. Paul, MN 55117
RE: Soils Tests at Elevated Tank Site
Allen Ave. and Desoto Street
Gentlemen:
18 Fourth Avenue S.E.
St. Cloud, Minnesota 56301
251.7751
314 Oak St.
Sauk Centre, Minnesota 56378
3523664
October 11, 1977
The soil tests taken at the proposed elevated tank site at
the southwest corner of Allen Avenue and Desoto Street have not
proved satisfactory. The preliminary report from Braun Testing
indicates the soil is poor down to 60 feet and the piling costs
mould run at least $60,000.00 and could be as high as $100,000.00.
In view of the poor soil conditions at this location, we are
forced to take a second look at other possible locations for the
elevated tank. This will push back the timetable for the elevated
tank construction but this is unavoidable. It would be desirable to
make a decision on a site as soon as possible so that soil tests
can be taken and a report prepared. Hopefully, the timetable for the
elevated tank construction will only be pushed back one month.
I would like to suggest the following locations for the proposed
elevated tank. I have listed them in the order that I feel they should
be considered. I have listed some of the advantages and disadvantages
of each site:
I. Property behind City Hall on Noel Drive
a. This site is along the proposed trunk 16" line, so no
new additional trunk main is required.
b. The soil at this site appears good on the surface. Sewers
constructed in this area indicate we can expect at least
average soil conditions which would mean no piling.
c. The ground elevation at this site is at approximately the
same elevation as that at Allen Ave. & Desoto Street.
d. The site area is about 1/2 acre which is about the minimum
we should have.
CLERK'S EXHIBIT NO.
MEETING 10-12-77
