If the Contractor anticipates problems that would make it <br />infeasible to retain any of the trees shown, he shall immediately <br />contact the owner and a decision will then be made as to removal Vol <br />or alternate construction methods. <br />GRADIN G <br />A. Clearance and Stripping <br />At the start of operations, the contractor shall stake out <br />the location of the new construction and obtain approval of <br />the layout from the owner. The contractor shall then strip <br />the topsoil and remove any extraneous material as necessary <br />for construction of the improvements. The contractor shall <br />not disturb more than necessary for the proper execution of <br />the work. <br />B. Rough Grading <br />1. The site shall be rough graded to permit the finish <br />grades shown on the drawings. Rough grading shall be <br />carried to such elevations as are necessary to accommodate <br />finishes as specified below. <br />2. All grading to be accomplished under this contract shall <br />be worked carefully such that smooth contours will result <br />that conform to the plans. The earth shall be smooth and <br />free from large lumps, boulders, etc. <br />C. Excavation <br />Excavate all substances encountered to the dimensions and <br />elevations indicated except -as necessary to protect trees. <br />The Contractor shall make every effort to balance the cut <br />and fill on the site as indicated on the drawing and as <br />directed by the owner. <br />D. Excess I,;a.terial <br />Excess cut material encountered and not suitable for use on <br />the site shall be disposed of off the site by the Contractor. <br />E. Filling, Compaction, and Testing <br />Where fill is necessary on the site to bring the finished <br />grades to the elevations as shown on the drawings, it shall <br />be material free from boulders and approved by the owner. <br />Such excavation material as is available from the site may <br />be used for fill under surfaced areas if it is granular <br />material and it can be properly selected and adequately <br />compacted, d'here granular material is used for fill, no <br />more than 10 � shall pass a ;;' 200 sieve.
