STAFF REPORT
TO:Parks & Recreation Commission
FROM:Bryce Shearen, CPRE, Parks & Recreation/Community Services Director
DATE:January 4, 2024
RE:Park System Master Plan Reporting Update
ACTION REQUESTED
No action is requested. Information and discussion items to the Parks & Recreation Commission.
BACKGROUND
At the December 7, 2023 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting, staff reported on the
progress of the Park System Master Plan. The Commission had some good discussions on many
of the items and the reporting tool should be used for continued discussion going through 2024.
Due to staff capacity in December, staff proposes to postpone the discussion on many of the
items for another month to allow adequate time for staff to come up with a plan.
Additionally, one of the items discussed was utilizing the Commission to help with the
wayfinding signage at each park. Staff would like to form a subcommittee with three
Commissioners to help continue to move this project in the right direction and get it completed in
2024.
The estimated time expectation of the wayfinding signage subcommittee would be one or two
one-hour meetings a month over the next four months (4-6 meetings total). That will allow
sufficient time to create and implement a plan. Staff can provide assistance, but the
subcommittee of the Commissioner can meet independently of staff support and report back.
Meetings can be conducted virtually or in-person and space would be available at City Hall but
meeting outside of the City Hall would be acceptable as well. Meeting times and places would be
at the discretion of the subcommittee.
At the last meeting, Commission Mui volunteered to chair the subcommittee. Staff is looking for
two more Commissioners to volunteer for the park wayfinding subcommittee. Once a
subcommittee has been formed, staff will reach out with dates for a kick-off meeting and then go
from there.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends two or three Commissioners volunteer to form a subcommittee to assist staff
with the park wayfinding signage project.
