How to adopt
Those who adopt can select an “unadopted” facility through GIS mapping tools. Once adopted,
the facility will no longer show as available. A green icon or green shading indicates available,
with blue indicating adopted and unavailable. The process for adopting a catch basin, hydrant,
and park/trail segment is relatively similar. An example is shown in Image 2 and Image 3.

Image 2 – Catch basin adoption tool Image 3 – Park/trail segment adoption tool

Those who adopt will need to provide some data to participate in the program. Information, such
as the adopter's name or organization, will be public information, as outlined in the adoption
form. The adoption form also outlines how private data collected may be used through a standard
data notice. If an adopter cannot continue adoption, there is an option to “unadopt.” When
unadopted, the adopted item will become available and updated automatically in the system.

These programs were presented at the March 13, 2024, City Council meeting. The staff report
and council presentation can be viewed online.

STRATEGIC PLAN INITIATIVE:
Enhancing Identity and Empowering Community Strategic Direction
• Action Item: Community Culture Campaign
