TO: Parks & Recreation Commission

FROM: Sierra Hietala, Recreation Coordinator
DATE: April 4, 2024

RE: Recreation Update

ACTION REQUESTED
Informational Update. No action is requested.
BACKGROUND
Events
Little Canada 5K Sap Run: Staff continues to plan and prepare the Sap Run which is on
Saturday, May 4. Participants will enjoy a 5K around scenic Lake Gervais. Each participant will
receive a Sap Run t-shirt, goodie bag, and have their name put into multiple raffle drawings.

We currently have 68 participants signed up (as of 3/21), and a goal of 250
participants in the Sap Run. Larger events like these require volunteers to be
successful. There are volunteer opportunities for Parks & Recreation
Commissioners for registration and awards, entrance attendants, parking
attendants, photographers, and a course marshal and water table. Contact
Sierra or scan the QR code if you are interested in volunteering.

Puzzle Tournament with Vadnais Heights: Get ready… Set… Puzzle! Little Canada and Vadnais
Heights Parks & Recreation Departments have created our first-ever Puzzle Tournament, which
will take place on April 24 from 1-3 PM at Vadnais Heights Commons. Teams of 2-4 will
compete to finish a 500-piece puzzle in the shortest amount of time. Participants get to keep their
group puzzle, and first place will win a prize- a different puzzle for each team member!

Farmers Market: The Farmers Market will take place
Mondays from 2-6 June 17-October 7 at 2920 Rice
Street. We have received nine vendor applications with
four new vendors. Staff will continue to reach out to
both returning vendors, and possible new vendors for the
upcoming season. We look forward to continuing to
provide SNAP/EBT at the Markets, and the Power of
Produce Club for youth ages 4-12.

City-Wide Garage Sale: The annual City-Wide Garage
Sale will take place from Thursday, May 16, until Saturday, May 18. It is free to register for a
sale, and participants can take advantage of the City marketing their event! Staff will create a
map with each garage sale marked and information on the items at the locations. The registration
deadline is Wednesday May 8, 2024.
