STAFF REPORT

TO: Parks & Recreation Commission

FROM: Bill Dircks, Public Works Director
DATE: April 4, 2024
RE: Pioneer Park Play Node Update

ACTION REQUESTED
No action is requested.
BACKGROUND
The Pioneer Park play node project will get back underway once the weather warms up
following the recent snow. A punchlist has been put together with items that need to be finished
or repaired.
Some work was never completed before the first snow and cold temperatures and the bulk of that
work revolves around the splash pad. Other items that need attention are the restoration of the
grass along the path of the drain tile that was installed south and west of the soccer field. The
field is unplayable until that work is complete and the contractor has been made aware of the
time-sensitive issue with that portion of the work. There are other, more minor turf and plant
restoration items as well. This was expected and is normal for a project of this size that went as
late into the season as it did.
Work continues on the camera system. Staff is waiting for some specific parts before the
cameras can be installed. Metro-INET is assisting the City with the camera portion of the project
and is working on getting the parts needed to finish up.
Some of the sidewalk and trail work needs to be redone due to concrete popouts, areas of asphalt
holding water, or a lip being created between some old and new sidewalk.
Overall, none of the items are too severe and should not stop the playground from being used
when temperatures warm up. Staff is hopeful that the contractor can get most of the items
completed before June.
