MINUTES
PARKS & REC COMMISSION
APRIL 4, 2024

3

Commissioner Churcher stated that she has visited Pioneer Park many times during the past
week and asked when the volleyball nets would be installed.

The Public Works Director replied that he would look into that.

Commissioner Hipp noted that many people have been bringing their own nets to play in grass
areas of the parks.

Chair Horwath noted the snowshoe rentals that occur and perhaps volleyball nets would be
another opportunity; crochet was also mentioned as an option.

Chair Horwath stated that his family recently added a dog to their family and therefore he has
been out walking the trails a lot. He asked when the trail improvements would be completed.

The Public Works Director provided an update on the anticipated timing for trail projects.

Commissioner Williams commented that she has noticed wood ducks and turtles are back out at
the parks.

The Public Works Director noted that staff are building new wood duck houses.

Commissioner Mui commented that he is proud of the work the subcommittee has been doing.

Commissioner Hipp stated that she is excited about the Earth Day activities. She stated that she
continues to enjoy Nadeau and commented on the increased opportunities for the nature play
area. She noted a few locations in the parks where she believes that additional trash cans would
be helpful. She stated that there has been a lot of interest on art in the park and noted that she
would be interested in working on that concept further to perhaps work with an elementary
school to obtain some artwork from students that could be laminated and displayed in the parks.

Commissioner Churcher noted that her school has an art club that might be interested in
participating or assisting as well.

It was determined that Commissioners Hipp and Churcher would work on that concept further.

Commissioner Church commented that a trail going through Nadeau to the junior high would be
helpful to provide a connection for students as there is a sidewalk gap in that area.

Commissioner Owens commented that his kids have been enjoying the Pioneer Park playground.
He stated that he is excited about the trail connection as he and his family will then be able to
bike to the park.

Chair Horwath asked if there is an update on the Labore Road sidewalk discussion.
