MINUTES <br />PARKS & REC COMMISSION <br />APRIL 4, 2024 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />2 <br />Commissioner Mui commented that there will be a link on each of the wayfinding signs that <br />provides some of those fun facts about the parks. <br /> <br />Commissioner Delong Miller commented that the intent is to model after what Ramsey County <br />has done at their parks, but they are still debating about what to feature more on the signs, <br />whether that is rules or features while the other information would be found through the link. <br /> <br />Commissioner Mui commented that the group will continue to meet and hopes to provide a <br />mockup of the sign at a future meeting for the Commission to review. <br /> <br />Commissioner Williams commented that perhaps every five years the information linked to the <br />signs is updated. <br /> <br />PARKS AND RECREATION CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM UPDATES <br />The Public Works Director provided an overview of recently completed parks capital <br />improvement projects as well as those planned for this year. <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br />NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK <br />The Community Relations Manager stated that National Volunteer Week will take place April <br />21st through April 27th and highlighted the different City events that will take place. She noted <br />that this information has also been shared through multiple platforms used by the City to reach <br />residents. She also provided information on the adoptive programs the City offers along with <br />other volunteer opportunities. <br /> <br />SUMMER FIELDS USAGE UPDATE <br />The Public Works Director provided an update on the requests for summer field usage. <br /> <br />RECREATION COORDINATOR UPDATE <br />The Recreation Coordinator provided a highlight of upcoming events and activities as well as <br />upcoming programing opportunities. <br /> <br />Chair Horwath commented that he continues to be impressed at how much the programing <br />opportunities have grown in the past five years, not just in terms of events but to the different <br />groups served as well. <br /> <br />NEW TOUCH-A-TRUCK EVENT <br />The Recreation Coordinator reported that Saturday, June 8th the City will be hosting its first <br />Touch-a-Truck event at Little Canada Elementary and provided details on the upcoming event. <br /> <br />REPORTS FROM COMMISSIONERS <br />Commissioner Delong Miller commented that she will be visiting all the parks to review the <br />amenities and ensure the website is up to date.
