STAFF REPORT
TO:Parks & Recreation Commission
FROM:Steven Anderson, Parks and Recreation Director
DATE:September 5, 2024
RE:Pickleball Conversion and Parks Court Resurfacing
ACTION REQUESTED
No Action Requested. Informational Only.
BACKGROUND
At the August 14th City Council meeting, the Council passed a motion to approve the services quote from
Lee Sports Surfacing LLC for Spooner Park Pickleball Conversion and Parks Court Resurfacing.
Thunderbay Park Basketball Court is due for resurfacing in 2024. Rondeau Park is currently
being reconstructed and requires resurfacing after the concrete base is poured in 2024. Pioneer
Park Basketball and Tennis Courts are due for resurfacing in 2024.
Pickleball is currently the fastest growing sport in the United States. The courts at Spooner Park,
which are currently lined for both pickleball and tennis, are often heavily used with pickleball
players. To prevent displacing tennis players in our community the courts at Pioneer Park would
be turned from combination pickleball/tennis courts to exclusive tennis court use.
Lee Sports Surfacing LLC will begin work in September of 2024.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
No Action Requested. Informational Only.
