MINUTES
PARKS & REC COMMISSION
NOVEMBER 2, 2023

3
REPORTS FROM COMMISSIONERS
Commissioner Abruzzese commented that her family has continued to search for geocache and it
was confirmed that the prize has not yet been won for that contest. She stated that December
will be her last meeting as she has decided not to reapply.

Commissioner Mui recognized the six years that Commissioner Abruzzese has served. He
thanked staff for the work on Pioneer Park, noting that it has been great to watch and to see the
community come together.

Chair Horwath commented that it seems that markings have been placed for the trail project.

The Parks & Rec Director commented that the trail has been postponed until spring as the
documentation has not been received from Xcel as of yet. He noted that the project has been
approved and the contractor will honor the pricing in the spring.

Chair Horwath commented that it is exciting to see the pollinator planting areas grow and asked
for details on the bridge project with the City and Maplewood.

The Parks & Rec Director replied that they are going to begin applying for grant funds for the
project in coordination with Maplewood.

Commissioner Schletty commented that the ribbon cutting for Pioneer Park was a great success
and noted that his family has visited the playground a few times since that event. He asked if
there was an update for the property adjacent to Pioneer Park.

The Parks & Rec Director replied that the City Council did authorize staff to begin negotiations
but to his knowledge, there is not a purchase agreement as of yet.

Commissioner Churcher stated that she has brought her cousin to Pioneer Park a few times since
the opening and her cousin said it is her favorite park ever.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:15 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Amanda Staple
TimeSaver Off Site Secretarial, Inc.
