MINUTES <br />PARKS & REC COMMISSION <br />DECEMBER 7, 2023 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />4 <br />Chair Horwath also recognized the consideration that must be given for the limited available <br />funding. He noted that some of the projects are also done in cooperation with other entities or <br />from outside funding. <br /> <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS: RECREATION COORDINATOR UPDATE <br />The Recreation Coordinator highlighted some of the upcoming youth and adult programming <br />opportunities. She also noted upcoming community events and activities and provided a recap of <br />the recent Cookies with Santa event. <br /> <br />The Parks & Rec Director commended the Recreation Coordinator for her hard work in planning <br />the event and ensuring the event ran smoothly. <br /> <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS: 2024 MEETING SCHEDULE <br />The Parks & Rec Director reviewed the proposed 2024 meeting schedule, noting a conflict for <br />the July meeting. He proposed to move that meeting to July 11th. It stated that it is not <br />uncommon to cancel the August meeting because of all the events in August. <br /> <br />Commissioner Schletty made a motion to approve the 2024 meeting schedule as recommended by <br />staff. Commissioner Churcher seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously approved. <br /> <br /> <br />REPORTS FROM COMMISSIONERS <br />Commissioner Abruzzese thanked everyone, commenting that she has appreciated working with <br />all the members of the Commission over the past six years. <br /> <br />Commissioner Hipp thanked Commissioner Abruzzese for her leadership, noting that her passion <br />for the bike racks was an inspiration to her and has been a path that others have followed. <br /> <br />Commissioner Mui wished everyone happy holidays. He also thanked Commissioner Abruzzese <br />for her service on the Commission. <br /> <br />Commissioner Williams stated that she spoke with the Watershed District the previous week and <br />was able to confirm that the Gervais Mill Pond will be aerated. She noted the amazing donations <br />that were made for toys and jackets during the recent event and suggested that the City have a <br />food donation bin. She commented that could be done year-round and perhaps collected by <br />Interfaith. She wished Commissioner Abruzzese well. <br /> <br />Chair Horwath commented that it has been a pleasure to serve with Commissioner Abruzzese <br />and appreciated the great discussions that Commissioner Abruzzese has helped to lead. <br /> <br />Commissioner Schletty thanked staff and the volunteers who worked on the Cookies with Santa <br />event, which was a great success.
