MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION
LITTLE CANADA, MINNESOTA

FEBRUARY 1, 2024

Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a regular meeting of the City Council of Little Canada,
Minnesota was convened on the 1st day of February, 2024 in the Council Chambers of the City
Center located at 515 Little Canada Road in said City.

Chair Howarth called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. and the following members of the Parks
& Recreation Commission were present at roll call:

PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION: Horwath, Mui, Owens, Schletty, Williams,
Churcher.

ALSO PRESENT: City Administrator Chris Heineman, and Community Relations Manager
Laura Linehan

MINUTES
Commissioner Schletty made a motion to approve the January 4, 2024 Parks & Recreation
Commission minutes as submitted. Commissioner Churcher seconded the motion. The motion
was unanimously approved.

OLD BUSINESS

DEPARTMENT STAFFING UPDATE
The City Administrator stated that the Parks & Rec/Community Services Manager has moved on
to a new position and the City will need to fill that position. He stated that a copy of the position
has been provided to the Commission for review, as it is common practice to update the job
position prior to posting. He noted that the job title will be updated as this has evolved into a
Director position. He also noted other tasks that will be updated as the City now has a
Community Relations Manager and therefore this position will be a Parks and Recreation
Director. He summarized some updates that will be made to the description and welcomed any
additional input from the Commission. He also provided an update on the proposed timing,
noting that staff plans to bring the updated position to the Council for review and approval at the
February 14th meeting and the job will be posted after that time with interviews anticipated to
take place in March.

Commissioner Williams asked why there is a delay when the Parks & Rec/Community Services
Manager provided his notice in January.

The City Administrator explained that staff wanted to be intentional and take the time to update
the description to ensure they capture the desired candidates.
