MINUTES
PARKS & REC COMMISSION
FEBRUARY 1, 2024

2
Commissioner Mui asked the type of language that would be added to address diversity and
inclusion.

The City Administrator stated that they do have some examples they can use, but specifically for
this position would be more program and participation related.

Commissioner Mui commented that Little Canada as a community has a lot of diversity, and it
could be helpful to identify the diversity of the community in the posting.

Commissioner Schletty asked whether the position would be posted internally or just externally.

The City Administrator commented that they would post the position externally and if there are
internal candidates, they could also apply. He provided details on the review and hiring process
which utilizes multiple staff members. He stated that even though it is not required, the Council
would still be involved in the choice as this is a department head position.

PURCHASE AGREEMENT FOR 2884 AND 2886 CENTERVILLE ROAD UPDATE
The City Administrator stated that the City Council approved moving ahead with this purchase
agreement and provided an update on that process and the agreed upon lease back terms. He
stated that closing is anticipated for February 21st or 22nd.

Chair Horwath commented that this is a big step for parks and the community as they look for a
community gathering space for the future.

PARK WAYFINDING SIGNAGE SUBCOMMITTEE UPDATE
Commissioner Mui commented that the subcommittee met to begin discussions on the
wayfinding signage and what should be included. He stated that he will continue to update the
Commission as they progress on their work.

Commissioner Williams commented that she will be meeting with the Historical Society to learn
more information on the parks.

The City Administrator commented that staff has discussed not holding a March Commission
meeting as the only agenda item at this time would be this subcommittee update.

Commissioner Mui agreed that he would not have much to update at the March meeting and
would have a more robust update on the subcommittee progress at the April meeting.

NEW BUSINESS

2023 RECREATION PROGRAMS REVIEW
The City Administrator noted that a written report was provided. He recognized that they have
tried a lot of new recreation programs and perhaps the group can start to think about what has
worked well and areas where they would like to see programing grow.
