The Mayor
Job stated that he wanted to emphasize that this did not mean that the
Description Building Inspector was on trial. Mr. Flanson stated that in the past
the Council hasn't bin very definitive in many areas as to what they
expect from the Building Inspector.
Councilman DeBace stated that the Council has examples of job descriptions
of the building inspectors of other cities that the Council can use
to expand the City's Building Inspector job description.
Councilman Nadeau reported that he has not heard many complaints regarding
the Building Inspector. Nadeau stated that what the Council is looking
for is something of an enforcer in the Building Inspector. When a
building permit is taken out, it is necessary that someone follow up
to see that landscaping, for example, is carried out.
Councilman Fahey stated that 'the main areas lacking in the Building
Official job description is that it doesn't provide for the enforcement
of the City's zoning and the Building Inspector should review building
plans and coordinate the inspections of the City's other inspectors.
Also, the Building Inspector, according to Fahey, should be corresponding
more with the City Council on his activities.
Councilwoman Scalze asked Mr. Squires, the City's present Building
Inspector, what types of inspections are made by him on new construction.
Pir. Squires replied that he makes a footings inspection, a framing
inspection, and a final inspection on a building. Mr. Squires indicatedi
that he does not measure the lot lines and determine if the set backs
are correct, because he has no way of knowing if the property stakes
are accurate.
Page -1-
