MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL

(Corrt~d,)

February 21, 1980
Old Little Mayor Hanson reported that the City has received a letter from Paul
Canada Borg of the Roseville Area School District which states that the
School School District will sell the Old Little Canada School Building to
Building the City for a price of $250,000.00. This price includes the building
and three acres of property. The City's occupancy date could be
September 1, 19II0.
Councilwoman Scalze stated that the School Board originally said that
they were interested in land value only for the sale of the Old Little
Canada School. The $250,000 is land value plus building value.
Councilman DeBace questioned if there was enough interest in the
building for the City to purchase it.
Fahey suggested that the City hire its own appraiser and see what
kind of a price he would come up with.
Councilwoman Scalze stated that there are community block grant funds
available that could help purchase this building for the City. She
feels that the City should take advantage of these funds.
Councilman DeBace suggested that the Council meet with the School
Board to see if the $250,000 is a firm price.
Councilman Nadeau suggested that the City put the purchase of this
building on a referendum. Fahey stated that the City could not wait
that long to act.
Councilman Nadeau suggested that just Mayor Hanson meet with Mr. 6org
to see how firm the School Board is on the $250,000. DeBace stated
that after that meeting the City could get its own appraiser to give
the City a price on the property. Fahey suggested that Mr. Hanson
tell Mr. Borg that 'the $250,000 is too high.
Attorney Parks suggested that the Council get going on this right away.
Once the School Board knows the City is interested, it won't talk to
any one else about the property.
Manson stated that he would have an informal meeting with Borg right
away. Fahey also suggested that Mr. Manson ask Mr. Borg what the
$250,000 is based on.
Hanson stated that he would report to the Council the results of his
meeting with Mr. Borg at the March ~4, 1980 special Council meeting.
Page -8-
