MINUTES
City Council
March q, 1960
Councilman Nadeau stated that he felt a nice building housing the
senior citizens would enhance the neighborhood. Councilwoman Scalze
stated that she agreed.
Councilman DeBace stated that this property is low. He felt if the
senior citizen housing development did not go in, the property would
be left vacant for a couple of years.
Mayor Hanson stated that without the architectural rendering, the
Council could not make a decision tonight on if the development would
go on this property or not.
Councilman Nadeau asked how the Council will make the March 31 deadline
for getting an option on a piece of property.
The Attorney suggested that perhaps the City could get a short-term option
on the Jackson-Little Canada Road property without any dollar consideration
involved. This short-term option would satisfy the Community Development
Corporation and perhaps later after the architectural model is ready,
the Council could get a permanent option.
Councilman Fahey stated that all the Council needs is the option, and
then the Council could talk to the neighborhood a little more.
Mayor Hanson informed the Council that the FIUD people have looked at
the property and have stated that it is suitable for the senior citizen
development.
Mayor Hanson suggested the Council table the matter until it receives
the architectural model.
Attorney Parks suggested that when the model is ready it could be
shown to Dick Boss, Sr. so that the Council could have his feelings.
Parks also stated that he would contact Mr. Jacobson and Mr. McNamara
to see if they are willing to grant the City a short-term option on
this piece of property. Fahey suggested that Mr. Parks contact Mr.
Rice of the Community Development Corporation to see if he has any
objections to a short-term option.
Councilman Fahey also suggested that Mr. Rice be told that the Little
Canada Road-Jackson Street property is the only property the Council
is considering at this time for the senior citizen housing development
so that Mr. Rice could begin any paperwork if he wishes. Fahey stated
that if the City decides against this property, the project would be
scrapped for this year.
Councilman DeBace stated that he would not want to make a quick decision
and then not have the development on the best piece of property for
such a development.
Page -3-
