<br /> MINUTES. <br /> City Council <br /> July 9, 1980 <br /> The Engineer commented that there is no real outlet for drainage <br /> in .the area that St. Jude's is considering. Councilman Fahey stated <br /> that the drainage situation would have to be studied. <br /> Mr. Burrow informed Council that.McGough Construction has been <br /> selected by St. Jude's to construct the building. .The construction <br /> will be clone on a fast-track basis. Mr. Burrow stated that St. Jucle's <br /> would like to break ground in a month to a month and one-half. <br /> fair, Jim Villeau stated that the traffic caused by this development would <br /> have to be studied with consideration given to traffic lights on Demont <br /> Avenue. <br /> Mr. Joe Moorbrosk, another representative of St..Jude's, informed the <br /> Council that St. Judc's Medical, Inc. is a manufacturer. of heart valves. <br /> The company started in 1976 in Northfield, Minnesota. It presently has <br /> 100 employees. Mr. Don Roberts is a principle stockholder in the company <br /> and also owner.of the land i.n question... Mr. Moorbroek stated that <br /> St. Jude's is very interested in preserving the site and would be <br /> building a clean, attractive facility. St..Jude's is also projecting <br /> much growth with an estimated 1,000 to 1,400 employees by the end of <br /> 1905. <br /> Mrs. Mugs Nardini asked .if St. Jude's urould be manufacturing plastics. <br /> Mr. Moorbroek stated that they would not. Mr. Moorbroek also stated <br /> that there is..no chemicle waste, and if there is it would be collected on the <br /> site and removed. <br /> St. Judes is also anticipating four day work weeks for its employees. <br /> The building would have some staff in it between the hours of 6:00 A.f9. <br /> and 1:00 A.M. during the work week. It is .possible, however, that. <br /> St. Jude's may be operating 24 hours per clay... Mr. Moorbroek estimated <br /> that SO4b of the staff would be working in manufacturing and 50"~ in the <br /> office function. <br /> Councilman Fahey stated that. tonight's purpose is just to set a public <br /> hearing, and these other issues that are being discussed should be <br /> discussed at that time. <br /> Councilwoman Scalze asked if in the manufacturing process there would <br /> be any heat, fumes, etc. involved. Mr. Moorbroek stated .that the <br /> manufacturing function is similar to_a faospital or laboratory setting. <br /> It is very clean and the people involved are completely gowned. <br /> Mr. Moorbroek stated that he would like to give the Council the application <br /> for the rezoning of the property. Mr. Moorbroeck also requested a public <br /> hearing be set up for the purpose of consideration of St. Jude'.s <br /> application for industrial revenue bonds. St. Jude's is estimating <br /> a $3.6 million price tag for the project. <br /> Mayor Flanson stated that at .this point the Council should call for a <br /> public hearing for consideration of .the rezoning of the property in. <br /> question to a PUD. ..Council should also call for a hearing on St. Jude's <br /> application for industrial revenue bonds. <br /> Page -6- <br /> <br />
