<br /> MINUTES <br /> City Council <br /> September 24, 1980 <br /> Joseph Chlebeck - 10.79% increase; Flnnette Freeman - 10% increase; <br /> Roger Glanzer - 12% increase; Dan Drake - 10% increase; Bev Jespersen - <br /> 10% increase; and Grace Blessner - 8% increase effective retroactively <br /> on July 1, 1980 and a 10% increase effective 1/1/80, Councilman Fahey <br /> also suggested that the part-time Recreation and Utility personnel should <br /> also receive 10% increases. <br /> The City Clerk commented that the Fluditor recommended setting wages <br /> for the Recreation and part-time Utility personnel during the budget <br /> time. <br /> Roger Glanzer of the Utility Department commented that he would like <br /> to see a flat rate set for starting wages for part-time. Utility Department <br /> help and a ceiling set that these wages can rise to. These people are <br /> employed usually only during the summer months. <br /> Mayor Hanson questioned Jim Morelan about the number of Recreation <br /> part-time employees who do not live in Little Canada. Mr, Morelan <br /> commented that Tom Goar lives just over the line in Maplewood, but <br /> has always participated in Little Canada's recreation program. <br /> Mayor Hanson also asked how the Recreation Department goes about hiring <br /> these employees. Mr. Morelan commented that no one has ever contacted <br /> him about employment. Morelan stated that the people who are employed <br /> are usually the children of parents who have participated in recreation <br /> and who will make sure that their children will do the job, <br /> Mayor Hanson stated that he has informed people that they should contact <br /> Jim Morelan if they would like to be employed part-time in the Recreation <br /> program. <br /> Councilman DeBace suggested that the Utility Department and the Recreation <br /> Department come in with a budget for the salaries of their part-time help. <br /> The schedule should give the people doing the same type of work the same <br /> salary level. <br /> Fahey stated that the schedule should be fair to everyone. Fahey also <br /> suggested that the Recreation Department could break out the schedule <br /> so that the six or seven employees who do the most important work would <br /> be grouped into a certain class and the younger employees into another <br /> group. <br /> Mayor Hanson asked if other cities the size of Little Canada employ <br /> more employees within their Utility Departments. Roger Glanzer stated <br /> that Vadnais Heights employs 5 people in their Utility Department. <br /> Councilman DeBace stated that Vadnais Heights has a totally different <br /> water system than Little Canada. <br /> Councilman DeBace stated that he feels the work is getting done with the <br /> number of employees the City has in its Utility Department. <br /> Councilwoman Scalze asked what work could be done better by hiring an <br /> additional maintenance employee. <br /> Page -7- <br /> <br />
