MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING <br /> CITY COUNCIL <br /> LITTLE CANADA, MINNESOTA <br /> November 19, 1980 <br /> Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a special meeting of the <br /> Council of the City of Little Canada, Minnesota was held on the 19th <br /> day of November, 1980 in 'the Council Chambers of the City Center <br /> located at 515 Little Canada Road in said City. <br /> The Mayor, Mr. Raymond Hanson, chaired and called the meeting to order <br /> at 7:35 P.M. <br /> MEMBERS PRESENT: Mayor Mr. Raymond Hanson <br /> Councilman Mr. Michael Fahey <br /> Councilwoman P4rs. Beverly Scalze <br /> MEMBERS ABSENT: Councilman Mr. Robert DeBace <br /> Councilman Mr. Roy Nadeau <br /> ALSO PRESENT: City Clerk Mr. Joseph Chlebeck <br /> City Attorney Mr. Clayton Parks <br /> City Planner Mr. Brad Nielson <br /> Recording Secretary Mrs. Kathleen Glanzer <br /> The City Clerk announced that there was a quorum of the Council present. <br /> <br /> Canadian Mr. Lance Urbanian of the Canadian Days Committee appeared before the <br /> Days Council. Mr. Urbanian stated that the Committee is concerned about the <br /> Celebration actions that were taken and comments made at the Council's recent budget <br /> meeting. At that meeting the Council decreased the budget of .the <br /> Canadian Days Celebration from $2,000 as was budgeted in 1980 to a <br /> figure of $1,500 for 1981. At the meeting, Mr. Urbanian reported, <br /> Councilman Fahey stated that he thought the Canadian Days Celebration <br /> should become self-sufficient and Mr. Fahey proposed that the budget <br /> for this activity be decreased each year. Mr. Fahey was also reported <br /> to have qu.es.tioned whether the community benefited from the Canadian Days <br /> Celebration. <br /> Councilman Fahey informed Mr. Urbanian that he did have some real <br /> questions about whether or not the community as a whole benefits from <br /> Canadian Days. Fahey stated that he was not in favor of expanding it. <br /> Councilwoman Scalze stated that she felt the City benefits from Canadian <br /> Days. <br /> Fahey commented that Canadian Days is getting bigger and bigger every <br /> year and he felt soon it would get out of control. Fahey felt Canadian <br /> Days got out of hand in 1980 and in 1979. Mr. Fahey said that he thought <br /> the purpose of Canadian Days was to promote ties between the City of <br /> Little Canada and the City of Thunder Bay. <br /> Dennis Forsberg stated that control of the people and of the grounds <br /> were out-of-hand. Forsberg stated that there was no police or sheriff <br /> protection present. Forsberg informed the Council that the fire Department <br /> tried to do what they could in this area and tried to take care of any <br /> injured people. Forsberg also stated that there were several things going <br /> on the Fire Department did not care to participate in. Forsberg felt <br /> there should have been better police protection. <br /> Page -1- <br /> <br />
