'1'he first ~ha.se o£ tYae trait wou:Ld <br />Bike be along Edgerton Street ~rom County Road B-2 to Little Canacia l~oad. <br />'Praiy <br />A~Ir. Learnord inforrned the Council that the cost oE' Phase i~ oF the <br />bike trail would be $120,000 with ~9~,~00 oi' this arnounc funded <br />through ba.ke ~;rant funds and the resnaining $30,000 £unded through <br />Ramsey County Maintenance N'unds. <br />The second and third phases of the bike traa.l in Little Caraacla wou.l.d <br />extend 3'rom Littye Canada. Ro3d tu Centerville Road. <br />l~ir< Learnord explained that Ldgertion Street presetzt,J~y hz~s a 21a ioot <br />pave~aent. ^1he bike trail would run on both sides of Edgerton Street. <br />In building the trail9 the Coun'ty wou:Ld cut one foot froitt both <br />sides of the street arAd then add five feet of pavement to each <br />side the Edgerto~. l'he driving surface o£ Edgerton would remain <br />21~ £eet wide with four foot paved bike traila on either side of <br />the street, The trai.ls wou].d be divided from the rest o~ the <br />street by a white line and they would be marxed *aith a bike trail <br />syrnbol on the pavement. <br />Nr. Forsberg asked if the County has ever encountered safety problems <br />wiih bike trails. ~Ir. Learnord replied that the Gounty has not had <br />sa.fety problerrAS with the trails. I~lr. Learnord stated that the bike <br />trail tunds are intended to promote lanes for people to travel on <br />bikes> The trails are not intended for small children to ~lay with <br />their biices. <br />I~i1rs, Sca12e asked how parking wou,Ld be discouraged in the bike trails> <br />ivir, Learnord stated that it would be up to ths City to request no <br />parking desa.gnation £or the bike trai].s. ivir. Leaxnord stated that <br />he saw no reason for the County F3oard to deny such a request, <br />NLrs. Nardini poirzted ouL that there is a lot of pa2^king along Edgerton <br />in the area of Gervais Beach. <br />vlr. Hanson expressed concern with the present corzdition of. the pavement <br />of' Edgerton Street and also pointed out that the City has been requesting <br />the County to lower the speed limit on Edgerton £or the past 25 years. <br />Mayor Hanson stated that the speed limit on Edgerton shou7.d be 30 miLes <br />per hour> <br />vir> liearnord stated that the existence of biice lanes will not tend to <br />effect the speed 1i.mit, 'Ihe addiiion of the bike lanes could, howevere <br />be a cause to have the spead limit reduced, <br />p~e _']_ <br />
