MINUTES <br />City Council <br />October 14, 1981 <br />Mrs. Scalze stated that in 1972 it was appraised at $30,000. <br />Mrs. Sca1ze also stated that the Park Commission was thinking about <br />walking paths for this property with wood chips laid as a base for <br />the paths. The Park Commission would like to leave it a natural area. <br />Mr. Forsberg was not in favor of any improvements to the property, <br />including wood chips. <br />Mrs. Sca7ze stated that if the Council did not want to buy the property, <br />the Park Commission did not want to pursue it any further. <br /> Mrs. Nardini stated that if the City acquires the property, it should <br /> be left as i s. Hanson stated that it was valuable for a holding area. <br />Park Land Mrs. Scalze stated th~t the Park Commission would like to obtain the <br />Under property und er the power lines block by block. <br />Power <br />L9nes Mayor Hanson asked if it would present any problem if there is park <br /> 1and on one block and then across the street it is not designated for <br /> park land. <br /> Mrs. Nardini commented that this would take the pr operty off the tax <br /> rolls. <br />Mayor Hanson asked if the City would put itself in a position of liability <br />with park land under power lines. The Flttorney stated that the City would <br />not be liable. <br />Mr. Forsberg stated that he was not in favor of obtaining any more park <br />land unless the people come in to the Council and ask for more park land. <br />The City Clerk stated that the question of ponding was not addressed in <br />the Allen Avenue issue. The Engineer replied that there is a ditch in <br />the area. The City Clerk stated that the County does not want any more <br />water in this ditch. The Engineer replied that he was not sure the City <br />could not use the ditch. <br />Mrs. Nardini stated that the City should encourage the Park Commission <br />to investigate this and come in. Nardini stated that she was in favor <br />of more open space. <br />Hanson stated that he supported open space. <br />Mr. Forsberg replied that the property is open space right now and why <br />do anything. Forsberg commented that if the City acquires the property <br />it will have more maintenance work. <br />Moving Mrs, Scalze stated that she obtained a bid from Ed McCumher on moving the <br />Electrical electrical box at the skating rink. Mrs. Scalze stated that she will obtain <br />6ox a couple more bids. <br />Page -28- <br />
