Michael Fahey <br />Mr. Dennis Forsberg <br />P4rs. l~iugs Nardini <br />Mrs. Beverly Scalze <br />ALSO YI~S3~NT: <br />City Clerk <br />Recordirzg Secretary <br />Mr. Joseph Chlebeck <br />Mrs. Kathleen Glanzer <br />Interviewing The purpose o£ tonight~s worlcshop session is to interview the three <br />City Attorney finalLsts of the applicants the Gity received for the City Attorney <br />Applicants position in 1982, These applicants are Thornas Sweeney of Sweeney~ <br />OtConnor & LaMay, Roger Knutson o£ Grannis, Grannis, Campbell & Farrell, <br />and Jerome Fi11a of Aieyer, Hiniker & Filla. <br />Council began with Mr. Thomas Sweeney of Sweeney, p~Connor & LaMay. <br />Mr. Sweeney informed the Counci:L that his resume outlined his experience <br />and expertise in municipal law. Sweeney stated that his firm consists <br />of four lawyers. They are in general practice but deal primarily with <br />municipal law. <br />This firm currently represents the City o£ Blaine £or both civil and <br />criminal work, Mr. Sweeney handles the civil work and two of his <br />associates handle the prosecution. Mr. Sweeney informed the Council <br />that he represented the City o£ 5horeview from 1966 through 1)73 and <br />from 1971~ to 1y75 supervised the civil and criminal work £or this City, <br />Mr. Sweeney then left the firm he was with in 1975 and started a new <br />firm. He bagan representing the City o£ Blainein 1975. <br />Nir. 5weeney also stated that he represents three cornrnunities south of <br />iKilacs, and this work is done ~rimarily by mail and telephone, He <br />represents these cities for civil work only. <br />Mr. Sweeney stated that he is proposing to represent the City for <br />$85G retainer for civil work and ;~1,1~5 retainer for criminal. These <br />charges are per month, Mr. Sweeztey stated that he believes he can <br />save the City money wzth this proposal. Sweeney stated that he would <br />pre£er to do both the cr9aninal and civil woric for the C:ity. Other <br />items not covered in the retainer would be charged at $L45 per hour. <br />Mrs. Nardini questioned the xeference to routine clerical matters <br />outlined in Nir. Sweeney~s proposal that wou].d not be covered by the <br />retainer. Sweeney replied that these would be iterns that would best <br />be done by the City Clerk, <br />Page -1~ <br />
