MINUTES <br />City Council <br />January 13~ 19H2 <br />Mrs. Nardini introduced the £ollowing resolution and moved its adoption: <br />RFSOLUTION N0. 82-1-7 - AYPOINTING THE FIRM OF MILNER <br />CARLEY & ASSOCIATES AS CONSUI,TING ENGINEER FOR THE CITY <br />OF' LITTLE CANAllA FOR THE YEAR 1982 <br />The £oregoing resolution was duly seconded by Mrs. Scalze. <br />Ayes (5) iVardini, Scalze, IZansan, Forsberg, I'ahey, <br />Nayes (0). <br />Resolutian declared adopted. <br />This xesolution appears in Resolution Book No, 8, Yage !~, <br />Legal itilr, Gene Johnson of the North Suburban Free Press appeared before the <br />Newspaper Council requesting that Council consider the reappointment of the <br />Appointment Free Yress as the City~s legal newspaper, Mr, Johnson stated that <br />the rates charged by the free press for bid notices~ ordinances, etc, <br />are set by State Statute, Mr, Jmhnson also conunented that the Free <br />press is proposing a fee of $325 per month for the printing of <br />Council meeting minutes as opposes the :p302 per month the F'ree Press <br />charged the City in 1981. <br />ivir. Johnson also commented that he believes residents oP the Czty <br />have developed a reading habit with the Free Press. Johnson also <br />commented that the F'ree Press has effective delivery to 93.5 pereent <br />of the City~s residents. <br />NIr. I~ahey asked Johnson if the F'ree Press was being delivered to the <br />City~s condominiums, Mr, Johnsori replied that this was being done, <br />The Free Press is also being delivered to the rnobilehomes in the City. <br />Mr. Forsberg stated that he does not agree with the 93.5 percent figure. <br />F'orsberg stated that he believed on one svT~etch og City street he is <br />familiar with thexe are only about 12 to 11~ homes receiving the F'ree <br />Press. Forsberg also commented that there is an ernpty lot with just <br />a box up where the Yress is being delivered. <br />Mr. Bob Hathaway, the driver and deliverer for the Free Press, appeared <br />be£ore Lhe Council. Mr, Hathaway stated that if there is an indication <br />that someone does not want the Fres Press, he will not deliver it to <br />that house, Hathaway also stated that he is delivering the P'ree Fress <br />to condominiums and apartments in the City, <br />Mr. Forsbexg asked Mr. Hathaway how many papers he deliver;~ in the City <br />each weeic, Aathaway replied that there are £l00 boxes on his route and <br />about 600 papers that are delivered to apartments and condos. Ms~. <br />Johnson stated that the Free Press is a].so mailed in some areas, <br />Mr, Forsberg commented that it was his feelings that the Free Yress <br />has had a negative attitude towards the City of Little Canada expressed <br />in its articles. Forsberg felt that the Free Press should be doing <br />something positive for the City. Mr, Forsberg also commented that the <br />City Council has a dif£icult enough job and the Free Press has not made <br />it any easier, <br />Yage -1~- <br />
