IQINUTP;S
City Council
January 13, 1982
Mr. Fahey stated that he did not believe this was true. Fahey also stated
that the Free Press has covered a lot o£ things for the City that the
Roseville Review has not. Fahey felt that the Fire Department and
Recreation activities in the City have received good coverage from the
Press,
Mr. Fahey stated that before the City would make a change to the Roseville
Review he would like to know what kind of coverage the City o£ Little
Canada would get from the R;oseville 13eview.
Nir. Gene Johnson cornmented that if the Gouncil had concern for the types
of articles the Free Yress was doing on the City, the editor at the
newspaper should have been contacted so that the Free Press could hear
the Council~s point of view. Mr, Johnson corumented that the people at
the Press are human beings and make errors, and it is possible for a
reporter to make an error if he or she does not have both sides of a
story.
i°irs. Scalze commented that the City cannot tell the Free Press what to print,
However, there have been times when the City was involved in delicate
negotiatlons and articles have appeared in the Press bhat did not hel,p
with these negotiations.
Mr. Fahey stated that he feels the Council has deserved a lot oi' the
criticism that they have rece~.ved. The Council should be holding shorter
meetings, Fahey felt that part of the problem is that the Council has
not been getting good advice,
P'orsberg stated tha~ tnis City is not tne oziLy one that spends a lot of
time at meetings. F'orsberg also comnented that i£ this is what it takes
to satisfy the citizens in the City, he wi].1 sit ana listen to tnem.
Mr. Bill Gengler of the Roseville Review appeared be£ore the Council,
Mr. Gengler stated that he was not prepared with a formal presentation
for the Roseville Review~s interest in being appointed the City~s legal
newspaper. Due to a conflict Ray Enright of the Lillie Suburban News
was not able to make the meeting to give the Council this presentation,
Mr. Gengler stated that the Council has the information regarding the bid
and Gengler also stated that the Roseville Review is distributed free-o£-
charge,
Mr. Fahey stated that f'rom the bid submitted it appears that the Roseville
Review would be a much greater cost to the City, Fahey also expressed
concern that the City would not receive a great deal of coverage in the
Hoseville Review,
t4rs. Nardini commented that 99~ of the City is within the Roseville School
District. This is the reason she was leaning more towards the appointment
of the Roseville Review as the City~s legal news~~per because of the coverage
that the schools would recei.ve.
I~Jx. Fahey stated that this was a good point and suggested that the Council
take a good look this year at the coverage the City is getting,
Page -5-
