The City Clerk pointed out that last year the City budgeted <br />Budget $12,000 for water loss. <br />(Cont.) <br />'1'he City Clerk informed the Council that it is possible to live with <br />a 10~ water loss. The C1erk pointed out th.at the City usually has <br />a large water loss showing up every winter. Mr. Chlebeck stated that <br />a 9 million gallon water loss is about 12% water loss for the year. <br />The Clerk also informed the Council that the City sta£f is presently <br />doing everything it can to try to find this loss. The Clerk also <br />stated that the budget the Council is currently considering was <br />prepared before the sta££ realized thai; there was this 9 million <br />gallon loss. <br />Mr. Fahey agreed that the water loss must be tracked down, but did <br />not feel that the budget should be held up because of it. Fahey <br />suggested that the sta£f continue its checking and iS the loss is <br />not found, then an audit should be ordered. <br />Mr. Glanzer informed the Council that the January water usagp in the <br />City is down to where it should be. <br />The Clerk stated that the Counci]. coul.d postpone action on the budget <br />until the first meeting in March. <br />Fahey stated that in view of the fact that the budget was prepared <br />before the sta£f had knowledge of the water loss~ he saw no reason <br />to delay acting on the budget. <br />Mr. G:Lanzer pointed out that the City of St. Paul increased its rates <br />for water to the City in December of 1981. <br />Nirs. Scalze asked if the Counail delayed action on the budget until <br />March if this would prosent problems with the April billings. The <br />Clerk did not £eel tha.s would present any problems. <br />'Phe City.Clerk also commented that in a month1s time the staff should <br />know a lot more about this loss. <br />~ir.
