MINUTES <br />City Council <br />F'ebruary 2ly~ 1982 <br />Cable TV approximately $5.50 per rnonthg Tier 4 would include 85 channels <br />(Cont,) tor approximately $7.5U per month. 1^he availability of these channels <br />does not mean that there wi11 be programmin~ on all o£ the channels. <br />NJr, Tarnowski also informed the Council that movie channels such <br />as HBO and Showtime will be available at a cost o£ approximately <br />~7.50 per month. <br />The bidders will also provide £ire and burglary securiiy at an extra <br />charge. The cost will depend upon the size of your home and what is <br />involved. `Phe installation of' these services coul.d reduce your home <br />insurance costs, There is also a medical alert service available for <br />an extra charge. `Lhis could possibly be uti:l.ized by a handicapped <br />person £or emergency medical help. Tarnowski also commented that it <br />may be possible in the future to utilize Cable TV to do banking~ ordering <br />groceries, etc. <br />NJr. Tarnowski coimnented that all three bidders, Storer, 1'eleprompter~ <br />and United Bilstra, are good~ solid compariies. The Commission has <br />checxed on these companies and the oriLy complaints that were <br />received against the compariies were during the construction phase o£ <br />installation of the actual cable. <br />Nirs. Scalae asked if when new capabilities becarne available for Cable <br />'PV' if the company holding the franchise would provide these capabilities. <br />Nir, Tarnowski replied that Cable TV companies have been up..dating their <br />equiprnent. <br />d~lr. Tarnowski also commented that the Cable 'PV companies hold promotions <br />at various times during which there is usually a reduced installation <br />charge to the homeowner. <br />iir, Fahey stated that he would like to meet with Mr, Tarnowsxi prior <br />to the March 25th meeting so that he could discuss the various bidders <br />and inform Nir. Tarnowski o£ his f'eelings on who should receive the <br />franchise. Nir, Tarnowski stated that at the 25th meeting each bidder <br />will make a presentation~~~ aiter that presentation Mr, Tarnowski would <br />like to speak to the Councilmembers to discuss the bidders, Tarnowski <br />in£ormed the Council that tYae City of Little Canada has two votes out <br />o£ a tota;~. o~` 30. <br />i~ir. Tarnowsxi commented that the franchise is awarded f'or 15 years. <br />There could be possible rate increases during that period. At the <br />end of the 15 years~ other Cable companies could make proposals for <br />the franchise. <br />Mr. Tarnowski stated that hopefully some areas of' Little Canada will <br />begin receiv9.ng cable in December of this year, <br />i~ir.
