MINUTES City Council F'ebruary 2ly~ 1982 Cable TV approximately $5.50 per rnonthg Tier 4 would include 85 channels (Cont,) tor approximately $7.5U per month. 1^he availability of these channels does not mean that there wi11 be programmin~ on all o£ the channels. NJr, Tarnowski also informed the Council that movie channels such as HBO and Showtime will be available at a cost o£ approximately ~7.50 per month. The bidders will also provide £ire and burglary securiiy at an extra charge. The cost will depend upon the size of your home and what is involved. `Phe installation of' these services coul.d reduce your home insurance costs, There is also a medical alert service available for an extra charge. `Lhis could possibly be uti:l.ized by a handicapped person £or emergency medical help. Tarnowski also commented that it may be possible in the future to utilize Cable TV to do banking~ ordering groceries, etc. NJr. Tarnowski coimnented that all three bidders, Storer, 1'eleprompter~ and United Bilstra, are good~ solid compariies. The Commission has checxed on these companies and the oriLy complaints that were received against the compariies were during the construction phase o£ installation of the actual cable. Nirs. Scalae asked if when new capabilities becarne available for Cable 'PV' if the company holding the franchise would provide these capabilities. Nir, Tarnowski replied that Cable TV companies have been up..dating their equiprnent. d~lr. Tarnowski also commented that the Cable 'PV companies hold promotions at various times during which there is usually a reduced installation charge to the homeowner. iir, Fahey stated that he would like to meet with Mr, Tarnowsxi prior to the March 25th meeting so that he could discuss the various bidders and inform Nir. Tarnowski o£ his f'eelings on who should receive the franchise. Nir, Tarnowski stated that at the 25th meeting each bidder will make a presentation~~~ aiter that presentation Mr, Tarnowski would like to speak to the Councilmembers to discuss the bidders, Tarnowski in£ormed the Council that tYae City of Little Canada has two votes out o£ a tota;~. o~` 30. i~ir. Tarnowsxi commented that the franchise is awarded f'or 15 years. There could be possible rate increases during that period. At the end of the 15 years~ other Cable companies could make proposals for the franchise. Mr. Tarnowski stated that hopefully some areas of' Little Canada will begin receiv9.ng cable in December of this year, i~ir.
