Glanzer informed the Council that he has brought up the subject <br />Systems And of a$100 stand,by charge for sprinkler e,ystems because he £eJ.t it <br />Charges was his job to in£orzn the City of tha.s, The decision on whether or <br />not to adoX~t the charge is up to the Council, <br />Agenda <br />Item No. 23 Mr. Glatzzer stated that the City will be up-.dating its utility <br />ordinance and af the Cotmca.l wishes this may be the more appropriate <br />time to discuss the char~e. <br />i~ir, I'orsberg £elt that this charge was unfair to businesses. <br />Glanzer commented that if the City does not charge businesses the sta,nd»by <br />charge~ other people in the Cyty pick up the cost. <br />Mrs. Naxdini cammented that there as a£low meter on a sprinkler system <br />line and it only takes two or three gallons to check a l.ine. The flow <br />meter makes sure that no one is tapping the 11ne. <br />Glanzer commented that there are other costs that this charge wpu].d <br />cover besides the water usage, These are the cost of interest on <br />bonds for the improvement and the City had to brin~ a certain si.ze <br />water l.ine to the business a.n order to serv9.ce a sprinkler system, <br />Glanzer commented that the City is pxoviding businesses with sprinkler <br />systems a sez•vice that they ~re not paying for but the rest of the <br />City is, <br />Glanzer also inPormed the Council that this charge was in the orda.raancc, <br />at one time but removed, Glanzer also commented that most ather citS.es <br />have this charge and the oxil.y city that he knows doES not hsve the <br />charge is the City of 6Jhite Bear, <br />Mr. Forsberg stated that 3t was a, plus to the City to have a building <br />spra.nklered, F'ahey commented that 9.t is a plus to the building owner <br />as he gets a reduced fi.re insurance rate. <br />Mrs> Nardin9. suggested that the City charge a busine~s a~100 charge <br />if they use their spr9.nkler system. <br />Fahey stated that he sees the charge as a cost of doing business, <br />Fahey asked how the $100 amount was determi.ned. Mr, Glanzer x~eplied <br />that he based this on whtxt the City was charging in the past. <br />NIr.
